On March 20, 2025, at 12:07 p.m., Boise State President Marlene Tromp announced via email that she will be the University of Vermont’s next president.

This news followed the University of Vermont’s announcement of Tromp as the sole finalist for the position just three days prior.

With a subject line that read “Farewell”, Tromp announced her resignation effective summer 2025. She expressed bittersweet feelings regarding leaving Boise State, her admiration for faculty and students and her pride in her accomplishments as president.

“I am so proud of all that we’ve accomplished in the last nearly-six years, outcomes I celebrate as I prepare to wish this beloved community farewell,” she wrote, going on to highlight increased  enrollment numbers, research programs, the growth of endowed professors and funding for student scholarships.

Tromp noted the scope of Boise State’s impact nationally, from academics to athletics, and wrote about the university’s attendance at the G7 summit (2023) and involvement in the U.S. Council on Competitiveness.

The president signed off with a confident assertion that the next president will be as attracted to “the excitement and impact” Boise State possesses as Tromp herself was.

“Once a Bronco, always a Bronco,” she wrote.
