“It’s our biggest one [season] yet,” Laura Kendall, executive director for The Morrison Center, said.
On March 11, 2025, the day after their season announcement party which hosted 1,130 Broadway and theater fanatics, Laura Kendall gave a rundown of what to expect for the 20205-2026 season.
“We have five shows on the subscription package with one add-on, which means that as a subscriber you can add it on first. We’ve got a lot [of shows] that are coming straight from Broadway,” she said.
The lineup includes the Tony award-winning musical comedy “Shucked” running Oct. 21-26. Set in the fictional town of Cobb County, the show follows Maizy as she seeks to uncover why the town’s most valuable asset, corn, is disappearing.
Theater-goers will be able to time travel back to the seventies with the cast of “Mamma Mia”, as the ABBA jukebox musical tells the story of Sophie as she attempts to discover the true identity of her father. These dancing queens will be returning to The Morrison Center June 9-14, 2026.
Kendall said The Morrison Center couldn’t ask for a better season. The rest of the line-up includes “MJ”, the Micheal Jackson musical (Dec. 2-7), “Moulin Rouge” (Jan. 27-Feb. 1), “Disney’s The Lion King” (Feb. 18-March 7) and Les Miserables (April 21-26) — a season add on that Kendall is particularly excited about.
“Les Mis was the first Broadway show that I ever saw,” Kendall said. She explained that, at 15-years-old, she had her family drive three hours from Lincoln, Nebraska to Kansas City, Missouri. “There was nothing like that experience of watching that show unfold, how incredibly beautiful it is. It’s epic. It’s sweeping. The songs are so moving, and I was hooked.”
Kendall said the center also reserves a ticket for students and is eager to hear more about how to make the student population at Boise State feel included.
“We really do need students to come to us and see what we’re up to. We’re always working on figuring that out, and we actually have hired some pretty incredible Boise State students to help in our marketing department,” Kendall said. “We’ve got positions in backstage, box office and programming where the students are really helping us crack the code on, how do we make this happen for students, and what do students want?”
Can’t wait until fall to get back to The Morrison Center? Fear not! The Neighborhood Concert Series is held every other week June through August. Concertgoers can hear the music of local artists, enjoy a variety of food trucks and, as Kendall puts it, “just have a party”.
