It’s officially time to drop your New Year’s Eve plans and book a flight to Glendale, Arizona to watch Boise State compete for the opportunity to play for a national title.
The Broncos continue to make a name for themselves after defeating University of Las Vegas Nevada (UNLV) 21-7 in the Mountain West Championship for back-to-back seasons.
This was likely the biggest game on the blue turf and Bronco Nation showed their excitement by not only rushing the field but by tearing down the goal post and throwing it in the Boise river.
“This is a legacy that people will talk about for years to come,” said Head Coach Spencer Danielsen in a press conference. “Sitting on that podium and seeing Bronco Nation storm the field are moments that mean everything for our program and accelerate us forward in the future.”
This victory resulted in the Broncos earning the No. 3 seed in the 12-team College Football Playoff bracket.
No. 3 Boise State is one of four teams that earned a first round bye to the quarterfinals and will play in the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31.
The winner of the No. 4 Penn State vs. No. 11 Southern Methodist University (SMU) game on Dec. 21 will determine Boise State’s opponent.
Boise State Fiesta Bowl legacy
Boise State’s undefeated legacy in the Fiesta Bowl serves as a major reason players come to play for the Broncos.
The Broncos have a 3-0 record in the Fiesta Bowl with a victory against University of Arizona in 2014, Texas Christian University (TCU) in 2010 and most notably University of Oklahoma in 2007.
The 2007 Fiesta Bowl is known as one of the most legendary games in Fiesta Bowl and Boise State history. No. 9 Boise State defeated No. 7 University of Oklahoma 43-42 in double overtime and a series of trick plays.
“I came here because of watching those games (Fiesta Bowl),” said Danielsen in a press conference. “Watching Boise State win a Fiesta Bowl for the nation is special and being able to be in that game now in a playoff setting adds a very exciting part to it.”
