Amanda Thompson, a Boise State University student, was arrested while protesting Big Oil with the Sunrise Movement at a campaign office for former President and presidential candidate Donald Trump in Phoenix, Arizona.
Thompson, a senior at Boise State, is an environmental studies major and climate change minor.
This morning, the arrest record said Thompson was arrested on one count of criminal trespassing in the third degree, a misdemeanor charge. As of noon Sept. 24, no charges are listed against Thompson on the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office website.
Thompson’s arrest record states that she was booked in the 4th Avenue Jail by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. After spending the night in jail, Thompson had her first court appearance in the afternoon of Sept. 24, 2024.
A secondary court appearance has been scheduled for Thompson on Nov. 18, 2024.
In a video posted to both Instagram and X, formerly Twitter, by the Sunrise Movement, shows protestors sitting inside the office arguing with a member of the Trump campaign, who grabs their banners and demands that they leave.
On X, the Sunrise Movement posted a video depicting a handcuffed Thompson entering the backseat of a police vehicle while stating her purpose for protesting.
A GoFundMe was created to fund Thompson’s bail as well as the bail of the four other arrested students. The GoFundMe has received 181 donations, totaling $7,125 as of 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 24, 2024. Their fundraising goal is $10,000.
