MEN’S BASKETBALL
Boise State’s men’s basketball team have been some giant killers lately, taking down the once ranked No. 17 Colorado State University at home and most recently the University of Nevada, Reno who were 15-1 until the Broncos knocked them off.
Against Colorado State, the Blue and Orange featured five players who had 10 points or more. One of whom was freshman forward Andrew Meadow who shot 3-4 from three, marking a career night.
“It’s a blessing to play in front of this crowd here,” said junior forward O’Mar Stanley. “And it’s a blessing to be with this team, they’re really special.”
In Reno against the Wolf Pack, the Broncos outscored Nevada in both halves, largely thanks to junior forward Tyson Degenhart who had a killer night with 20 points, four assists and nine rebounds.
The Broncos now move to 12-4 on the season and 3-0 in the Mountain West Conference (MWC), ranking 2nd behind the 16-1, 4-0 MWC Utah State University Aggies.
Up next, Boise State takes on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas at ExtraMile Arena on Jan. 16 at 8 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Boise State’s women’s basketball team took down San Diego State University (SDSU) on January 13.
The team had a monster first quarter, scoring 27 points to the Aztecs’ nine, shooting 75% from the floor. Their largest lead came in the second quarter when they were up by 30, before SDSU scored a quick four points to end the half 40-19.
“I don’t know if we established anything in the first quarter but we hit some shots. The hoop got big for us,” head coach Gordy Presnell said. “We had a lot of juice and a lot of enthusiasm. I don’t know if we established anything offensively, and that’s okay sometimes if you’re hitting shots.”
The Aztecs found themselves within six in the final minute of the game, but the Broncos’ kept their cool, going 6-of-6 at the freethrow line to close out the dub.
“This win is a testament to our perseverance and our team chemistry,” senior forward Abby Muse said. “We were able to stay together as a team. We had a little bit of adversity but we were able to shake it off.”
The Broncos will be back on the court on Wednesday, Jan. 17 to take on the 6-10 San Jose State University Spartans at 8 p.m.
WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS
Boise State outscored No. 16 University of Nebraska and No. 33 University of North Carolina but fell just short to the University of Arizona at the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad in Utah.
Junior Emma Loyim took first place on the floor with a score of 9.950, tying the program record.
“Emma Loyim’s 9.950 on floor was such a special moment for the team. I’m so happy for her,” head coach Tina Bird said.
The team totaled 49.425 points on the day to mark the highest score of the meet.
The bars squad also improved their scores from last week’s meet, largely in part to third place senior Emily Lopez, who scored a 9.900. The team notched a meet high of 49.225 points.
“I’m so proud of the team and the growth we had this week. Our floor squad were the stars of the evening with their amazing execution. The energy was contagious,” Bird said. “Alyssa Vulaj had a stellar night, hitting all three of her events and getting us started on two rotations. Adriana Popp continues to be a solid force for us on vault and beam.”
Up next, the Broncos come back to Boise for their first home competition of the year on Friday, Jan. 19. The team will host Air Force Academy San Jose State University and West Chester University at 7 p.m. at ExtraMile Arena.
