Here is what’s happening in Boise State Athletics…

VOLLEYBALL

The Bronco volleyball team went undefeated this week in their two matchups against Colorado State and University of Wyoming.

On Thursday, Sept. 21, the Boise State volleyball team beat Colorado State 3-2 in the Mountain West Conference play opener.

Paige Barsche had a match high of 24 kills, led the Broncos in scoring with 33 points and set a new school record with seven aces.

“I love the fight that our team showed tonight, coming out like we deserved to win,” head coach Shawn Garus said. “When we play with that type of aggression, we find ourselves in a match with a chance. In set five, we were down, but I never thought we were out. I give a ton of credit to the leadership on the floor.”

Their following game, on Saturday, Sept. 23, the Broncos toppled the previously undefeated University of Wyoming in a huge upset.

Barsche led the team in the 3-1 victory with 30 kills and three aces.

With Barshe’s incredible performance, she was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week making it the second MW Player of the Week honor in her career.

Boise State improves to 6-6 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Mountain West Conference. Up next, the Broncos will travel to Colorado to face off against Air Force.

MENS GOLF

With back-to-back top 25 finishes, sophomore Cole Rueck led the Bronco golf team to a top-22 finish at the Kansas State Wildcat Invitational on Monday, Sept. 18.

For just the second time in his career, Rueck finished at the top of Boise State’s lineup and notched a tournament high with 38 pars.

He went +2 in the tournament as the Broncos were +21 and placed 11th as a team, scoring 885 over a 54-hole stretch.

Boise State will be back in action Oct. 2-3, in the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, where last year Rueck and junior Will O’conner finished in the top 25.

SOCCER

The Broncos went to Colorado to face both Colorado College and Air Force.

Boise State took down Colorado College in their conference opener 2-1. The team has become a group of road warriors as the win keeps them undefeated in away games.

Junior forward, Ashly Berge, gave the Broncos the lead after the break, scoring her first goal of the season

“Games are going to be hard with the changing flow and momentum in Mountain West play,” said head coach Jim Thomas. “For us to keep a constant momentum throughout to find the game-winning goal was a great sign for us moving forward.”

Boise State women’s soccer wrapped up its road trip to Colorado with a 1-1 draw against Air Force on Sept. 24.

Bronco goalkeeper Genevieve Crenshaw was a force to be reckoned with as she made seven saves on eight shots-on-goal.

The Broncos came into the second half hot, outshooting the Falcons 8-7 and earning two corners. Freshman Cindy Conner squared the match 1-1 for the Broncos, netting one and allowing the Broncos to remain undefeated to open conference play.

“It’s amazing to see the ones who have been putting in the work walk away with the results they’re looking for,” Thomas said. “That’s exactly what happened for Cindy (Conner).”

The Broncos move to 3-1-6 on the season and 1-0-1 in the Mountain West Conference. Next up the team plays University of Wyoming at home on Sept. 28.
