The women’s basketball team was able to finish their comeback victory over Wyoming 70-59 at home on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
“We’ve been in a lot of games that have come down to the final minute,” said head coach Gordy Presnell. “We executed and hit free throws. [Sophomore forward] Elodie [Lalotte] made some big buckets. [Freshman forward] Trista [Hull] was terrific. [Redshirt senior guard] Dominique [Leonidas] had some huge steals. It was a total team effort.”
This was the first matchup between the Broncos and the Cowboys this year after their previously scheduled game on Jan. 3, was postponed due to COVID-19.
The win improves the Broncos’ record to 6-11 on the year and 2-4 in conference play.
Both teams were trading shots resulting in seven lead changes and four ties throughout the first half.
Wyoming quickly pulled ahead coming out of halftime and was able to maintain the lead by a narrow margin throughout the third quarter.
The Broncos went on multiple runs including a 20-5 run in the final 6 minutes of the game to capture an 11 point lead and seal their victory.
Leonidas dropped 13 points and recorded five steals while having a bloody nose throughout the game.
Sophomore guard Mary Kay Naro scored a team-high 14 points and senior forward Rachel Bowers recorded a season-high 12 points as well.
