Pingpong tournment to be held in SUB

The Pingpong Tournament is right around the corner! On April 30 the Student Union Games Center will be hosting a ping pong tournament where the title of Boise State Pingpong Champion is up for grabs. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the Games Center in the SUB.

Although the sign-up list is completely full sign-ups are still open and a wait-list has been created. The sign up sheet can be located on the Games Center website. Students are still encouraged to come out and watch the tournament and cheer on friends and fellow Boise State students. There is potential to be in the tournament if people do not show up.

According to event organizer Melinda Jean Stafford, “our goal was to have 16 brackets but we doubled that, we have 32 brackets.”

The tournament rules are unique to this event. The preliminary rounds will consist of one game to 21 points and the final four will compete for best out of three. All referees will be Boise State students.

“I am very excited for the event because there are a lot of good players and it’s great to have the opportunity to meet new people who share similar interests,” said Alex Meldrum, a junior finance major.

The winner will have the privilege to be named Boise State Pingpong Champion and will receive a decked out pingpong paddle trophy, movie tickets and a gift card to the Boise State Bookstore. Second place will also receive the prize of one movie ticket and a gift card to the bookstore.

This is the first time that the Student Union Games Center has hosted a pingpong tournament, and according to Stafford, “because of the popularity of the event we are hoping to do it again” along with other Games Center activities in the future.
