Are we actually seeking sincere forms of communication, or are we all merely narcissists waiting and anticipating that next “wall post" or “tweet” with the withdrawal and desire of a heroin addict?

Few of us can really imagine a life without the Internet. The Internet functions as our means of communication, our resource for news and our method of entertainment. It is obvious that it has changed the way we live our lives. However, a few of us wonder whether it has changed us as well.

The promise of free Web site hosting was just too great to pass up, and millions of kids like myself flocked to it hoping to broadcast our thoughts with glittery backgrounds, flashing links and colorful text so bright it was almost illegible. We didn’t care if anyone paid attention to our Web site. We were the Webmasters! We controlled what was seen!

Within the realm of social networking, there are thousands of styles and sites. These could be forums, blogs, information aggregators, or just chat sites. However, the highest concentration of users seems to center on three iconic sites. No, none of them are pornographic; I’m talking about Mypace, Facebook and Twitter.
