1. Student Soldiers: War through the eyes of our classmates who've seen it.
Shannon Morgan interviews Sergeant Doug Price of the Idaho National Guard, about his two tours of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Price recalls the day he got to pass out backpacks full of school supplies and toys to children who attended a school that he helped build in Iraq. “That was the best day of my life to see a smile on the faces of those kids, because now they can learn … Chances are you win the hearts of these little ones who are eventually going to run that country. When you give them the impression you’re giving to them, that you’re not there to hurt them … hopefully that impression stays with them. That changes everything.”

He reflects on how those memories helped him weather the intense violence he experienced in the war in Iraq, and how he still battles daily in the war that followed him home in his mind. “I saw a lot of things that no person should ever have to see. I’ve seen it all, the worst anyone could ever see.”
Price also shares how his views about the war have changed.” We’ve made a lot of difference and we’ve given the Iraqis every chance to get on their feet but they’ve got to do it on their own. We’re over there now just being targets.”
Sergeant Price would like his fellow Veterans to know he’s received excellent medical care from Idaho Elks Rehabilitation, and encourages them to seek help there. (208) 489-4444
2. Student Soldiers: War through the eyes of our classmates who've seen it.
Award winning podcast show host Shannon Morgan interviews US Army Specialist Jimmy Allen about his tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“I enlisted in the military because my family has a very long history of going into the military when they came of age. I’ve had a family member in every major war since the Revolutionary War. I saw this one as my generations time to step up and carry on the family tradition.”
Allen was a medic assigned to a scout-sniper platoon and received a medical discharge from the Army when he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
When recalling his worst day in Iraq he said, “I had taken pictures of one guy and the last picture ever of him alive was of him flipping me off, just joking around and laughing, you know … just messing around being friends. A half second later, three of them got blown up. I ran out there and none of them made it … two of them died in my arms that day. There was nothing I could do medically to help them. So it was pretty much just hold ’em, pray and cry with them.”
