“From the Treasure Valley to the valley of the sun, Fiesta Bowl here we come.” These are the words spoken by Boise State University President Bob Kustra, which best sum up the focus around BSU for the final three weeks of 2006. Kustra was one of many people to address boosters and local media Monday night at one of the first of many Fiesta Bowl parties for Boise State supporters.

After nearly two weeks without real football practice the Boise State Broncos took the practice field again Saturday. BSU is within 20 days of the biggest game in school history, while head coach Chris Petersen is approaching his biggest challenge at the helm as well.

As the Broncos prepare for the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1, Boise State University students, alumni and fans across the state of Idaho are preparing for the big game by making travel reservations and learning what Arizona activities will entertain family and friends.
  • Deja vu:

Last August the Boise State football team traveled to Athens, Ga. for what was anticipated to be the biggest game in school history. That's what BSU fans were touting the game to be at least. After 60 minutes of football there was a different attitude towards the program and the game, however.

Who has more to lose? Sorry if I lost you without an introduction, but I'm talking of course about the Fiesta Bowl. So who has more to lose, Oklahoma or Boise State? It appears both teams have considerable things on the line, namely pride and respect. However, there has been a lot of noise already about how Oklahoma has nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing BSU.

As the bowl season approaches, the anticipation of the big game increases. This year's match-up between may seem like a mismatch to some. A huge university with national titles and wealthy alumni spread across the country battling against a small state university with one 1-AA national title and a small regional following.

PHOENIX - As a member of The Arbiter staff, I have been most wondrously chosen to accompany the Boise State Broncos to the Valley of the Sun.

We came on our own, by air, via Oakland, Calif., where we became befuddled that the FAA has such strict regulations on the mouthwash you can take in your carry on, but the Oakland airport doesn't have ceilings.

The Boise State football team took time out of its Fiesta Bowl practice schedule Wednesday to do a little celebrity work in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Boys and Girls Club of Scottsdale visited Boise State's practice for a meet-and-greet with BSU players. The Youth Gridiron Day gave local children the opportunity to toss the football with college athletes and even get some face time on local television with interviews about the event.
