In an unprecedented move, ASBSU Vice President Joe Bunt asked a student to let the meeting proceed without further discussion during gallery comments Thursday. “I was basically told to sit down and shut up,” Counseling Education Graduate Student Lucia Venegas said. “I felt disrespected.”

Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter spoke Wednesday in response to President Bob Kustra’s remarks at the Idaho State Board of Education meeting last week. Kustra voiced frustration at the lack of freedom in making university decisions.

A resolution proposed by the Idaho State Board of Education granting university presidents the authority to change and amend faculty contracts passed the second reading at their meeting Thursday. According to Rep. Tom Trail (R-Moscow), Boise State and the University of Idaho have already amended faculty contracts. He said they enacted the change last spring without proper authority granted by the new resolution.

Student Senate President Trevor Grigg announced plans for election Friday to a crowd gathered in front of the Capitol building.

Sen. Pro Tempore Justin White formed a committee Thursday to respond to student outrage surrounding controversial fliers found in the SUB last week.

Joint Finance Appropriations Committee Chairman Dean Cameron spoke to students and members of the community Saturday about recent budget recommendations. “We are not even close to hitting the mark,” he said. “We are in uncharted territory. The economy has fallen so rapidly and so steeply it is disconcerting.”

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to the student tuition and fee hearing Friday at 1:00 in the Lookout Room of the Student Union Building. An increase of 10 percent in tuition for full-time students will be proposed.

“Racial hate reared its ugly head again this morning at Boise State. I will not stand for this!” said ASBSU Sen. Chase Johnson. “This will not be tolerated!” According to Johnson, more hate fliers were found in the SUB this morning.
