Over 9,000 people jammed out to Christian music at the Taco Bell Arena on Nov. 15 for Winter Jam. The headlined performer was GRAMMY® winning, multi-platinum recording artist TobyMac. The tour also featured nine other Christian bands with a diversity of music from hip-hop to screamo. Capital Kings opened in the middle of the arena on a small stage with a DJ set up and had the whole crowd fist pumping to their song “I Feel So Alive.” Next on stage was Dara Maclean. She sang three songs including hit “Thank You for Finding Me.” Following Maclean was American Idol contestant Jason Castro who sang “Good Love” and “Another Day Another Mile.” Alya Johnson, sophomore marketing major, said she was surprised by Castro’s appearance at the Christian concert. “I didn’t even know Jason Castro was going to be there,” Johnson said. “I had no clue he was even Christian but when they announced his name I got so excited because I rooted for him on American Idol and I thought... ...

The Haunted World, a 30-acre haunted maze, echoes with terrified screams, the buzzing of chainsaws and is lit up by strobe lights as people walk through. This maze is filled with dark pathways and monsters hiding within the corn, waiting to pop out and give customers a fright. Many times it’s hard to tell whether the villain is real or made of plastic, but when you walk by and they begin to chase you through the maze, you quickly realize most of them are real. As many as 200 costumed actors do their best to scare the pants off of anyone who enters the maze. Eerily dressed men on stilts greet customers, following those who have fear in their eyes, causing them to scream and run. The Haunted World consists of a 48-minute haunted maze as well as Skullvania, a converted warehouse containing dozens of rooms filled with blood, masked actors and obstacles. It also has a 20-acre regular corn maze which takes 30 minutes from start to finish. Skullvania... ...

Over 1,000 cowboys and cowgirls drank beer and listened to country music in Boise Saturday, Oct. 6. The Taco Bell Arena was flooded with 1,900 concert goers on Saturday for performances by country artists Brantley Gilbert, Brian Davis, Greg Bates and Uncle Kracker. Brian Davis was the first to come on stage. He had no band, but instead sang alone with his guitar. After Davis, Greg Bates opened with “Go Time.” He and his four person band then performed “Fill in the Blank” and “I’m on it.” Bates gave a shout out to the men and women fighting for our country. “If you are fighting for our freedom you are a brother or sister of mine,” Bates said as he dedicated his song “Brothers” to the troops. He then closed with his new hit “Did It for the Girl.” Next was Uncle Kracker who opened with “Four Letter Word.” The crowd showed excitement as they sang along to his 1999 hit “Follow Me” and 2009 hit “Smile.” Kracker told a... ...

“My heart is bound to beat right out my untrimmed chest,” and that probably is what the enthused crowd of 3,600 was thinking when Train walked on stage Friday, Sept. 21 and opened with their hit “50 Ways to Say Goodbye.” Those who were lucky enough to attend the sold out Train concert at The Taco Bell Arena were entertained by not only Train, but also by opening acts Andy Grammer and Matt Kearney. Grammer had the crowd singing along to his entire song “Keep your Head Up” and had them swaying during his new hit “Miss me.” “Most people came to this concert for Train but personally I was most excited about Andy Grammer,” Sophie Richard, sophomore political science major said. “He was so amazing and he had my heart racing the whole time. I kept screaming ‘you are so hot’ towards the stage, but I’m pretty sure he didn’t hear me.” After Grammer finished his set, Kearney entered the stage. Kearney had the guts to admit he is... ...

Mike Rosen, sophomore undeclared major, went to all three days of this year’s Art in the Park. “I had a blast. It’s so interesting seeing all the handcrafted stuff,” Rosen said. “You meet a lot of interesting characters out there and it’s free. There’s nothing better than free.” Freshman marketing major Jessy Gardene freshman spent a few hours at Art in the... ...

This is a commentary on “Hoetips,” a viral internet meme. Read a new commentary about a Hoetip every Wednesday. Things get way more complicated when a lie enters the situation. Once you lie about something you have to continue to lie to keep up with your first lie. Before you know it you’ll have a notebook full of lies just so you can keep track of them. The best policy is honesty; even when it hurts to tell the truth. Not to say there is never a situation that calls for a lie because we all know that isn’t true. An example situation would be lying to a bride by saying,”Yes I love the bridesmaids dresses they aren’t ugly at all.” Even when you are thinking about how disgusting they are. To spare the brides feelings and not stressing her out was a good use of a lie. There are few situations where lies are OK. Think carefully before lying about something because most of the time when you think... ...

This is a commentary on “Hoetips,” a viral internet meme. Read a new commentary about a Hoetip every Wednesday. This Hoetip is absolutely true.  If you have feelings for someone you need to be honest about those feelings as soon as possible. Things can get messy if you keep them to yourself. If you do you run the risk of the guy falling for someone else before he even knows you are an option. And it’s never fun losing a guy you like to another girl. And after he has another girlfriend telling him how you feel just isn’t an option. Refer back to Hoe tip #64: Never go for a guy who’s in a relationship. Show a little class ladies, when you play in someone else’s sandbox you get crabs. Even worse than just some random girl getting him, if you don’t voice how you feel one of your friends might fall for the same guy and there’s nothing you can do. It’s not breaking the hoe code if... ...

This is a commentary on “Hoetips,” a viral internet meme. Read a new commentary about a Hoetip every Wednesday. Part of this Hoetip is true; the part about not showing your jealousy in public. Jealousy is ugly and usually causes you to embarrass yourself, which is never fun. If you are jealous about something wait ’til you are alone with your closest girlfriend to bitch about it; don’t do it in public because most of the time people are going to think you are crazy. All though showing jealousy in public is not OK, showing your boobs in public is, to a certain extent. As long as you aren’t flashing a nipple, there isn’t much of a problem. Everyone likes boobs and if you are one of the blessed girls who has the goods to make cleavage in a V-neck, then show it off and be proud. There’s a slutty way of showing your chest in public, such as Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl, and then there’s a classy... ...

This is a commentary on “Hoetips,” a viral internet meme. Read a new commentary about a Hoetip every Wednesday. This tip is true on all counts. What is the point of hitting on a guy that has a girlfriend. It doesn’t matter how cute, sweet or romantic he may seem, he’s taken! I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want some girl hitting on your boyfriend so why would you do that to someone else. Have the same respect for others as you would want them to have for you. Besides, if for some reason this guy does fall for you and cheat on his girlfriend and at some point leave her for you what makes you think he wont do the same once you’re together. Chances are if cheated on her with you he will cheat on you with someone else. It’s a cycle of destruction and no man is worth any of that. Before you fall for a guy make sure he is available or it will just be a... ...

This is a commentary on “Hoetips,” a viral internet meme. Read a new commentary about a Hoetip every Wednesday. This isn’t necessarily true. I have said plenty of things under the influence that I know for a fact I didn’t mean. Some people are angry drunks and they might get worked up and say to their best friend, “You’re a fat bitch and no one actually likes you.” The mean drunk probably never thought that their friend was any of those things but alcohol impairs judgment which causes people to say things they never meant. Some people are overly friendly and love everyone when they are drunk. Just because a girl gets drunk and tells numerous guys she’s in love with them doesn’t mean she loves them or even thinks they’re attractive; chances are she’s horny and lonely and never would have given them a second thought in the sober day light. Not much a drunk person says can be trusted. Most of the time those who have been heavily... ...

Meridian Police have evacuated around 30 trailers in the Rose Circle Trailer Park in Meridian after they received credible information of an explosive device inside one of the trailers. Police are taking precautions to keep residents safe. Information will be updated when there is more information available. Bradley Baker a Boise State students drove past all the commotion right at five p.m. “I was on Meridian Street just north of Franklin Street getting ready to get on the free way; in a matter of seconds after I turned cops had things coned off,” Baker said. “15 minutes later(after arriving home) I heard on the news that there was an IED (improvised explosive device)  like the bombs they’re dealing with in Iraq, in a trailer park over there.” Information was retrieved from KTVB. ...

This is a commentary on “Hoetips,” a viral internet meme. Read a new commentary about a Hoetip every Wednesday. This tip is true as long as the ladies don’t get confidence and cockiness/just plain old full of yourselves mixed up. When girls get these two mixed up, things can go all wrong. Girls who are overly cocky and “wear it like makeup” are hard to get along with and hard for guys often feel too intimidated to approach them. Everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect and that is something cocky people don’t seem to understand. There are also girls who are depressingly down on themselves. If you are constantly saying, “I look so fat in these jeans,” or “Ew, I look gross in that picture,” or “I look bad today, don’t I?” People get sick of hearing your voice. You obviously just want attention and you want to have people compliment you because you have a super low self esteem, which is also unattractive. Women need to find... ...

Delta Sigma Phi has been at Boise State for almost a year and in that time, the fraternity has built on their core values of culture, harmony and friendship. Most importantly they have built a brotherhood. Hing Potter, a junior political science major at Boise State, joined this fraternity in April 2011 and is excited about his new group of friends. “What’s awesome about being part of a fraternity is you have a brother for life,” Potter said. “Fraternities are way different from what movies portray them to be. It’s not about partying, drinking and hooking up. It’s about bonding and making long lasting friendships while bettering ourselves and our community.” Each sorority and fraternity on campus has a philanthropy–a cause they will fund raise and donate money to. Delta Sigma Phi’s philanthropy is the American Red Cross. They fund raise, donate blood and help make others aware of the need to donate. On top of the donations they give to help the American Red Cross they also participate in... ...
