Read More →The Idaho State Board of Education approved a 6.9 percent hike in tuition and fees for Boise State for next year. The Board voted in Moscow on Wednesday, April 18 on the proposed hikes and all the four-year universities will see increases. Boise State’s increase is 1.7 percent less than requested by the university. University of Idaho, Idaho State University and Lewis-Clark State College will all see increases between four and five percent. The current tuition and fees for full-time, in-state students at Boise State is $5,884. With the tuition increase students will pay an additional $202 dollars per semester, or $405 a year. Boise State had requested an increase of 8.6 percent, U of I, 5.9 percent, Idaho State University 4.5 percent, Lewis-Clark State College 4 percent and Eastern Idaho Technical College, 4.9 percent. Read More →At 11:43 a.m. Friday, April 12, an unidentified caller phoned a non-specific bomb threat to the main Boise State switchboard number. Boise Police and Campus Security officers responded and conducted an investigation. The investigation determined that this call was a hoax bomb threat based on the non-specific nature of the call and the rash of hoax threats that have occurred throughout the Boise area Thursday and Friday. A Meridian teenager has since been arrested and charged with multiple felonies. Once someone knows what Sustainability Club has played a part in procuring for Boise State’s campus, it’s hard not to see their impact. The electronic water fountains and a more organized system for recycling throughout campus are just a few of the projects on campus that they have played a part in. Lea and Jenna Duffin and Rachel and Kellie Burgie started the club in 2008 to fill a void on campus. “They wanted to promote more environmentally friendly practices on campus… and reach out to the community,” Raese said. Elwell, 25, is suspected by police to be a transient intent on selling books for cash. Dollars should follow students. Stacy Pearson, vice president of Finance and Administration has said as much and so has Ryan Gregg, Associated Students of Boise State University (ASBSU) president. The idea of state dollars following students—regardless of which four-year public institution they attend, seems sound; however, in the past few years Boise State lost out on $10.3 million dollars in Enrollment Workload Adjustment (EWA) funds. The EWA is money given to the State Board of Education (SBOE) by the state legislature. The money is intended to ease financial growing pains experienced by state universities from growing enrollment, although certain degrees and programs are taken into consideration before the funding is distributed. There are four state universities in Idaho: Boise State, Lewis and Clark State College, Idaho State University and University of Idaho. The four schools are each considered for a part of the financial pie which is distributed by the SBOE, but each school does not receive an equal amount.
