BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women’s basketball team has added two more players to its roster for the 2013-14 campaign. Head coach Gordy Presnell announced this afternoon the additions of Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego and Hailey Laird to the squad. This brings the roster up to 14 members for the upcoming season.
Yaiza (Jie-thuh) Rodriguez Ortego is the third international player on the Boise State roster and the third who has represented her nation at international competitions. Rodriguez Ortego is coming off a busy summer of international competition where she represented Spain at the U19 FIBA World Championship in Lithuania July 18-28 helping her nation to a group title and fourth-place finish overall. She then followed that up by participating in Spain’s title run at the U18 European Championship Aug. 15-25 in Croatia. The native of Esplugues de Llobregat, Spain, has been playing for Siglo XXI , an elite program of the Spanish Basketball Federation, the last four years.
Hailey Laird is a junior college transfer and is the only native Idahoan on the Bronco roster. The 5-5 guard played the last two years for the Southwestern Oregon Lakers helping them to a 17-13 record as a sophomore starter at guard. She started every game last season for the Lakers averaging 8.83 points, 1.34 assists, 3.31 rebounds and 1.07 steals per game. Laird shot 31 percent from the 3-point line, which is her strength.
