Boise State redshirt junior defensive end Demarcus Lawrence has been named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against Mountain West opponent, the Air Force Falcons last Friday.
Lawrence made five unassisted tackles last Friday night, including two tackles for a loss of six yards in a 42-20 win over Air Force.
“Demarcus is a great player, he just brings a lot of energy,” redshirt senior defensive tackle Ricky Tjong-A-Tjoe said. “I know if I’m about to make a play that he’s right there.”
Lawrence, who served a one game suspension against Tennessee-Martin in the second week, led Boise State in tackles for loss this season with three-and-a-half tackles for minus 14 yards. Lawrence’s season total now tallies 15 total tackles, six unassisted, with one sack for a loss of seven yards.
This is the first time Lawrence has been named a league player of the week and is also the first time this season a Bronco player has earned a Mountain West weekly award.
Lawrence was named first-team All-Mountain West in 2012 as a redshirt sophomore after starting each of his 11 games he played. Lawrence led the team with 13 tackles-for-loss and nine-and-a-half sacks. He also led all defensive linemen in total tackles, with 48.
The Broncos will take on Fresno State on Friday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
