Animal Collective – If you consider yourself a fan of indie/alternative, you’ve probably heard of these guys. Psychedelic pop with an experimental edge would be the best way to describe AnCo’s (as their fans like to call them) music. Their most recent album, 2012’s Centipede Hz, draws on influences from avant-garde and world music marking a slight return to their more experimental roots, while still retaining the heavy electronic sound present on their previous two albums. This is the main attraction for the entire festival, so don’t miss out! 8:30 p.m. at the Main Stage (1201 W. Grove St.)
Brother Ali – One of underground hip-hop’s most forward-thinking artists, Brother Ali’s style is a mix of golden-age Rakim-style funk beats and politically relevant wordplay. Most famous for his controversial single, “Uncle Sam Goddamn”, Ali is a hip-hop classicist with something to say. 11:45 p.m. at The Reef (105 S. 6th St.)
Built to Spill – Playing even once at Treefort must be a daunting task, but for famous Boise upstart Built to Spill, it’s probably no sweat. That said, this will be their second setlist at the festival, and this time it’s all covers. Should be a heaping dose of fun. 10:10 p.m. at the El Korah Shrine (1118 W. Idaho St.)
Camper Van Beethoven – Hugely influential on all of indie with their DIY aesthetic and multi-genre musical attack, Camper is a more than welcome addition to Treefort. They just released a new album this year, La Costa Perdida, so expect to hear brand new stuff as well as old favorites. 9:00 p.m. at the El Korah Shrine (1118 W. Idaho St.)
Youth Lagoon – Promoting his brand-new album, Wondrous Bughouse, Mr. Trevor Powers will once again unleash his brand of minimal psych-pop onto the town that raised him. Expect a cool light show to go with the spacey music. 5:30 p.m. at the Main Stage (1201 Grove St.)
