Questions: What do you know about the changes that will be happening to the intermural field? How do you feel about these changes? How do you feel about students being unaware about this?

“I guess you can say that I am okay with football using it, but them controlling who can be on it is a little unfair, because it’s been used by the REC center for a bunch of different sports—like Frisbee, rugby, I even see some Quidditch practices going on there sometimes. I think it should be left to the students to use whenever they want. I didn’t hear anything about this so I think this was a little unfair, but I don’t really know what would have happened if they did say it out loud. Would there be protesters, or a huge debate going on? Or would people just ignore it anyways.”

Brooke Hanson, junior social science major

“I know that athletics is trying to buy the intermural field from Boise State; it’s just been going around. I think athletics could go elsewhere; we don’t have any fields besides that intramural field, I know they are trying to put another one by the Lincoln townhomes, which is going to be smaller and like a million dollars. I don’t think that it’s a good thing. I think we should be able to keep it. I think it’s our field to, we are paying to go to school here, but I still understand that athletics is paying for the field, but I think we should have been consulted; we’re the ones who use it.”

“I think that kind of takes it from the students really and kind of puts it more into like BSU football—it’s like here you go, this is for you. Like what’s that limit now? Does it limit anything? I think if it doesn’t really change the use of it I don’t see it being that big of a deal, but if it turns into all athletics using it and no one else, that can be a problem. I didn’t even know really that was going on so, I think it should be advertised more, talked about more.”

“I feel maybe it’s unfair; more people besides the football team should be able to use it. Being that 90 percent of the students aren’t  football players, so if a change is going to be made just for the football players, maybe the students should all be aware and involved in that action, maybe asked their opinion.”
