October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month

The Office of Information Technology encourages Boise State faculty and staff to take steps to protect themselves online, particularly given the increase in the number of calls to the Office of Information Technology Help Desk relating to phishing emails over the last week.

Google has great email filters, but they can’t catch everything. This is where you can help.

If Google suspects an email might be phishing for your information, it will place a warning at the top of the email. If you have received one of these emails, you can follow these steps to report it. Reporting these emails helps Google identify future phishing attempts, meaning less of them will show up in your inbox.

Phishing emails are just a small part of staying safe online.

If you have specific questions about a suspicious email in your Boise State inbox, contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@boisestate.edu or 426-4357.
