Boise State to ask for $17.5 million in bonds for new football facility

Boise State University will ask the Idaho State Board of Education this week for an approval issuing a $17.5 million bond, which would fund a great portion of the new football facility at Bronco Stadium, which is scheduled to be finished in the summer of 2013.

The board will consider the request this Thursday and Friday, Feb. 16 and 17, to decide whether or not to issue the bond. If it is passed, the bond will come from already pledged revenue, which does not include state appropriations. The university has already raised $4.5 million in private gifts and pledges for the complex.

“The improvements provided by this new facility are needed to support the development of the football program, provide facilities that are more comparable to our conference peers, and to enhance recruiting,” the university stated in their written proposal to the State Board.

The State Board has already approved of the plans for the new complex and additional bleacher seating, which can be read here.

We will update this appropriately as the story develops and more information is released.
