MITCH ESPLIN/THE ARBITER – Sales at the bookstore this year are second only to 2007, when $800,000 was raised for scholarships.
The Boise State Bookstore is returning $750,000 to the university this fiscal year in support of student scholarships and endowments, due in large part to a spike in merchandise sales fueled by the football team’s Fiesta Bowl victory.
This year’s total is second only to the $800,000 the Bookstore returned following the Broncos’ first Fiesta Bowl appearance in 2007.
“We’re pleased to be able to continue to support Boise State’s academic excellence by returning a significant dollar amount to the university for scholarships,” said Mike Reed, Bookstore director. “We also recognize and appreciate the ongoing support of our alumni, faculty, staff and students in making this program a success.”
The Bookstore and the Bronco Shops, which feature Bronco apparel, are the only retail outlets where proceeds go directly back to the university for scholarships and other expenses; the Bookstore receives no state appropriations or student fees.
Boise State is now one of the top 50 merchandisers among Collegiate Licensing Company’s 200-plus clients. Currently, more than 335 licensees are registered with CLC to produce BSU merchandise.
