The Boise State Broncos’ women’s basketball team got their first taste of competition during an exhibition match-up against the Lewis and Clark Warriors Sunday at Taco Bell Arena. The ladies of BSU displayed a strong offensive presence against LCSC, beating the Warriors 84-64.

Three Broncos scored in double digits, led by senior forward Jessica (Thompson) Van Hoogen who scored 15 points on the day.

It was a game to evaluate BSU as a whole with only two players getting 20 minutes or more of court time.

The Broncos opened the first half on a 10-1 run against the Warriors. Both teams went back-and-forth during following the Broncos run. LCSC would bring reign in the score to just three points, 22-19, but failed to gain a lead. The Broncos ended the first half with a 40-28 advantage.

BSU senior forward Jessica Van Hoogen felt a strong post presence presented an opportunity for others to get an open shot.

“We also got a lot of second shots, which was very nice. I thought our post did a very good job,” Van Hoogen said.

The Broncos opened the second half with a 19-3 run against the warriors and a string of three-point shots from freshman guard Julia Marshall in just 2:23.

“Tasha [Harris] was just driving and kicking,” Marshall said. “I was just feeling it. If you keep that up you are obviously going to do good. I was a little nervous at first. After I hit the first three I felt like I could get into a flow during the game.”

Marshall finished with 12 points, going three of five from beyond the arc.

The Broncos finished the game with 47.1 field goal percentage and 50 percent as a team from three-point land, making 10 out of 20 attempts.

Boise State opens against Western Oregon Friday, Nov. 13, at the Taco Bell Arena. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
