Thursday the student programs board hosted its annual Monster Bash. The event was held in the Jordan Ballroom in the SUB. The monster bash is a family-oriented Halloween carnival complete with, food, pumpkin painting and other activities. Spooky Halloween tunes played and children dressed in costumes that ranged from Spider Man to mad-eyed moody. They ran about playing with balloon made swords and wooden wands.

Emily Dickson, event coordinator and elementary education major said, “This event is for Boise State’s non-traditional students and their families, as they are here to get a degree, they normally don’t come to our other events.”

Pam Blessinger, senior health information major attended with her two children, Audrey and Ryan. Six-year-old Ryan was dressed in one of the flashier costumes, as Garfield, the popular comic tiger. He described himself as, “a house cat with a sword.”

At 7 p.m. the children lined up for the costume contest. After minutes of tough decision, the three judges, a high pitch voiced gnome (, a construction worker and a witch, decided  three-year-old Tyler, son of student Michelle Murray, was the first-place winner.

Tyler was dressed as the widely-known video game character Mario. His costume was complete with the baseball cap and a colored on black mustache. When asked about his victory, Tyler made no comment. A modest winner.

His mother said, “He’s obsessed with Mario, he loves to play Nintendo DS.”

Tyler shyly confirmed.

After the costume contest, families slowly began to depart. Even monsters and super heroes can’t stay up all night.
