Afternoon of music, fun with an impact

Come to Alia’s Coffeehouse Saturday, June 13, at 5 p.m. for a truly special event. Global Lounge is teaming up with Idaho Kids Count. It’s the quarterly mixer. Connect with people from other countries and cultures now living in Boise. Meet new friends and experience fresh ideas, cultures and people. Alia’s also hosts live music.

Idaho Kids Count will be there to ask you for your opinions and ideas. This is a huge chance to say what you need, see, and think during these times of economic distress. Let’s send a direct message to Idaho policy-makers about what you think can and should be done to help our citizens make it through. With your ideas, we can help steer the state in the right direction. Don’t miss this opportunity to mix and share your voices.

Apartment Parking Increase

I recognize the need to raise fees to cover the increased cost of infrastructure, etc. I do not understand why the Apartments have to take the blunt of costs when we do not require the use of parking structures (with the exception of University Suites). Student passes are being raised 5 percent, yet ours is being raised about 80 percent!

If fact, our apartments reduce the need for parking on campus! We have inexpensive parking spaces that have been in the same spot for years. The only cost is repaving and painting. The fact that our cars are parked at the apartment off campus reduces the need for spots (I live in University Park apartments). There are always many empty spaces in our parking lot, yet side streets are full because of the cost (especially for a second car pass) of parking. Why should we pay for parking structures if our apartments reduce the need on campus?
