Story

The Model United Nations conference in New York City is the world’s largest simulation of the United Nations. This year, 21 Boise State students joined more than 3,000 college students from around the world to attend the conference in the heart of Times Square April 6-11. Participants had to properly role-play their assigned country’s international relations by negotiating their foreign policies to find real solutions to the issues discussed in each committee. This year, BSU represented The Republic of Sudan.

BSU students also had the opportunity to visit the Permanent Mission of The Republic of Sudan and met with Sudanese delegate, Emmanual Ajawin, of the fifth committee. For more than two hours, he answered questions about his country’s form of government and foreign policy as well as encouraged less politically correct questions. Not a single question went unanswered, even those that involved controversial issues for Sudan.
