The most recent technological advances in communication are sweeping the nation. If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon it’s about time to join the fun! Early on the craze was instant messaging, then MySpace, and then came Facebook. It seems there’s no end to the oncoming rage of technology.
The most recent buzz enthralling the population is Twitter, a free online updating database. Thousands have joined the site and find it both amusing and practical.
Here are some tips for first time users and a little information about the website. Twitter is all about following. In order to stay up to date on what’s going on in the lives of your closest friends on this social media network you “follow” their presence on the site. It makes it quick and easy to hear about what movie your friend is watching tonight and share with everyone what you had for dinner from your computer or mobile phone in a message of 140 characters or less.
The texting like communication capability makes it easy to round up a group of friends with only one simple message. For example, you might send a message such as “Guitar Hero at Brian’s place tonight” to a few friends but Brian will end up hosting a house party.
For those worrisome about the dangers of online sites and cyber stalkers, know that Twitter accounts can be made private, only allowing friends to access your information. Depending upon your comfort level settings can be made public as well, so that everyone that has your twitter username ID can read and subscribe to your messages.
Twitter has recently caught the eye of not only social groups, but also the business and marketing world. Companies have taken advantage of the corporate advertising and public connection opportunity that Twitter offers.
Whether Twitter has charmed it’s way into your life or you are one of those who chooses to be no part of it, it certainly can’t be denied that this site has taken the nation by storm and is sure to be a powerful asset in the communication world.
