Standing in the East General lot on Thursday, you could feel the excitement brewing as the crowd started to grow in anticipation of Cricket’s Rail-jam Campus Tour. What at first appeared as a disappointing turnout for the event, the crowd quickly grew into a ruckus group of students wanting free goodies and a good time.

60 skiers and snowboarders lined up to take the top prize in the competition, that was delayed as spectators waited for the twenty tons of snow that made up the run to arrive. As the crowds waited, a dance-off was held fro some free gear and everyone got the chance to check out sponsors’ booths and pick up even more free stuff.

Though it took some prodding by the various MC’s at the event, by the end of the afternoon the crowd was in a frenzy, cheering every run and move pulled by the participants.

The three-plus hour competition featured a couple of attempted flips, falls, grinds, spins and cheers. After the final participant made their run as a plea for the judges to let them into the final rounds, Portland-based rapper Luck-One gave a live performance. After the performance, a champion was crowned and the rail-jam tour left with one question on everyone’s mind. Will we get to do this again next year?
