Grinnell wins WAC Field Athlete of the Week
On Monday, the Boise State track and field team earned its second consecutive Western Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week award as Ryan Grinnell has received the honor for April 6-12.
Last week, junior Zacharias Arnos also won the award, which was Boise State’s first outdoor WAC honor of the season.
This marks the first time in Grinnell’s career that he has earned the Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award.
Grinnell, a senior from Idaho Falls, received the award after winning the university division triple jump at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz. last weekend. His leap of 53-3.75 (16.25m) is a regional qualifying mark. Grinnell also recorded a regional qualifying mark in the long jump (24-2.25/7.57m) with a fourth-place finish at the meet. Both jumps rank first in the WAC.
He is the only student-athlete in the conference to have garnered a regional qualifying mark in the long jump as well.
Gallarda selected to attend NCAA Student-Athlete Conference
Boise State football player Tommy Gallarda received an off-field honor this week, having been selected to attend the 2009 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference, May 24-27, in Orlando, Fla. The conference will be held at the Walt Disney World Coronado Spring Resort.
Gallarda, a junior from Brea, Calif., is one of 233 Division I student-athletes who will participate in the annual conference. The conference has invited 700 student-athletes to participate from NCAA Division I, II and III.
The conference is provided at no cost to all NCAA member institution student-athletes.
Its purpose is to provide a forum for student-athletes to discuss campus and community issues.
It will also give them the opportunity to develop leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The four-day conference will utilize team sessions, exercises, speakers and activities.
Gallarda, a tight end for the Broncos, played in all 13 games for Boise State in 2008. He caught six passes for 65 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Kean Feeder snags third WAC Player of the Week honor of season
Boise State’s Kean Feeder was named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Players of the Week for April 6 -12.

He helped the Broncos to 6-1 wins against Denver and No.73 New Mexico State, as well as a 5-2 victory against No.67 Nevada.
He now holds a 6-1 record in the No.1 spot and improved to 22-5 in singles play including the fall tournament matches.
The senior defeated New Mexico State’s Jim Brouleau (7-5, 6-4) and Nevada’s Laurent Garcin (5-7, 6-0, 6-1) in the two WAC matches.
In doubles play with partner James Meredith, the pair improved to a six-match winning streak after picking up three wins last week. They hold a 17-7 record over the entire season, which also matches their dual record together.
