Boise State Beat Down – 4/18

Story

You all have that friend who has something odd to say in analysis of a sporting event or anything in general. We tend to just shrug it off and think nothing more of it.

Well we will all be void of one of those “friends,” now that John Madden has decided to pull himself away from the cameras and into retirement.

Madden never led the conversation but had something to say about every comment made by every counterpart that he came across.

He brought the concept of the Turducken into every home come Thanksgiving, mixing fowl to taste for everyone then broadcastings his masterpiece across the nation. It almost became as anticipated as watching the Detroit Lions accruing yet another loss.

I will miss his banter of the obvious “he should have caught that,” when a receiver was hit in the chest with a football “that must have rung his bell,” after a player was laid out by a 260 pound linebacker. At least something to those effects. No-crap comments and Madden were like babies and crying. It is bound to happen sometime and probably more than once.

But though most of us would talk to the television like he could hear us, explaining how unnecessary it was to receive his nuggets of knowledge, he knew the game better than most around him regardless of how well his thoughts came across.

I will miss his ridiculousness. For one, some of the ridiculous comments bring up the mundane that we don’t always see. Much like Harry Carey was for the Cubs, Madden has served as the voice for the NFL for decades.

Thank you John Madden for many years of rants and laughs. There were plenty of both.
