


Arnos named WAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Boise State senior Zacharias Arnos became the first Bronco to win a conference award for the 2009 outdoor track and field season by being named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, for March 30-April 5. Arnos, a junior from Nicosia, Greece, won the triple jump at Boise State’s first outdoor meet of the season, the All-Idaho Collegiate Championships. His leap of 51-04.25 (15.65m) was good enough to earn him a NCAA regional qualifying mark. It is currently the fifth-best jump in the nation. Arnos’ mark is also tops in the WAC by more than three and a half feet.
Hall and Bartelli named to PAC-10 All-Academic team
The Pacific-10 Conference announced its 2008-09 All-Academic Wrestling Teams, Monday, and Boise State’s Adam Hall and Alan Bartelli have been honored on the first and second team, respectively. In order to be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or a significant contributor to their team.
Hall, a sophomore from Bonners Ferry, was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team by maintaining a 3.38 GPA. He is a health science major. Hall wrestled at 157 pounds for Boise State this season. He earned a berth to the NCAA Championships after placing second at the Pac-10 tournament. Hall finished the season with a 35-6 overall record (18-1 in duals).
Bartelli, a sophomore from Wasilla, Ala., was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team with a 3.28 GPA. He is majoring in biology. On the mat, Bartelli split significant time at 125-pounds for the Broncos. He started 10 duals at 125-pounds this season and another two at 133-pounds. Bartelli finished the season with a 16-14 overall record (6-6 in duals).
Clancy Shields garners seventh career WAC Player of the Week honor
Boise State’s Clancy Shields was named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for March 30 – April 5.
Shields, a senior from Grand Junction, Colo., powered No.23 Boise State against No.36 New Mexico, 4-3, Sunday. Shields, the No.26 player in the nation, was a part of two points for the Broncos in the win against the Lobos, the Mountain West Conference’s top-ranked team. He first teamed up with Stanley Sarapanich, taking the first doubles match of the day, to set the pace for the BSU sweep of the doubles point.
In singles play, the senior took out UNM’s Graeme Kassautzki, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2, to take the point in the No.2 position, tying the score at 3-3. Overall, it marks the seventh WAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week award for Shields in his four-year career at Boise State.
