


It was a night of high-flying action, emotion and high scores for the Boise State gymnastics team as they pulled out a hard fought victory 196.22 to 195.225 against Southern Utah Saturday.
The No.23 Broncos coming off the highest scoring match of the season and needed every point to defeat the Thunderbirds.
The Broncos started the night on a high note, breaking the all-time team record of 49.300 on vault with a team score of 49.325. Chelsee Apple, a redshirt freshman, tied a career high 9.90 in the event in addition to teammate Hannah Redmon breaking her own career high with a 9.95.
With the great start on vault, the Broncos didn’t slow down against the Thunderbirds, pushing themselves to be the best in every exercise.
On balance beam, Cristy Dahlquist and Mallory Dziawura beat their own career records with scores of 9.65 and 9.825, respectively.
In addition to the great team effort put up by the Broncos on vault and beam, Lindsay Kazandjian beat her career high score on the floor exercise with a score of 9.850. Redmon also stepped up for the Broncos on the floor to tie her career record of 9.925.
Feeding off the performances of their teammates, the Broncos gave the gathered crowd of more than 400 a night to remember. This was the last match for Courtney Achter, Shaniece Craft, Amber Neroes and Ashli Rainboth of Boise State. BSU co-head coach Neil Resnick noticed how the emotion of senior night pushed his team to its best.
“It seemed as though we have been working on pieces of the puzzle all season” Resnick said. “Tonight, for Senior Night, they all fell into place. It all came together.”
“Our ladies really toughed it out tonight,” Resnick said. “The level of fitness and conditioning of the offseason really prepares your team for nights like these and it really pays off.”
With the win against Southern Utah, Boise State improves to 15-4 overall and 6-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. Their next match will be the WAC Championships in Sacramento, Calif. March 21.
