


You hear about the Associated Students of Boise State University all the time. Who are they? What do they do? Why should you care? Just like the national government, the student body government is made of three separate parts, which work to create school rules, distribute money to activities and shape Boise State to fit students’ needs and requests. If you’re mad about something on campus or looking to initiate a change, grabbing the ear of a student government member is a one way to make an impact. Plus, they appropriate student activity money, so they have their hands in your pockets.
Here’s a look at the people elected to
serve you.
Legislative Branch:
The ASBSU Senate
Composed of one senator from each college, who represents that specific college, plus an equal number of at-large senators, representing all students
Makes laws, regulations and operating rules for the general welfare of the student body
Approves the budget
Approves matching funds for student organizations and activities
Elected annually by the student body
Executive Branch:
The ASBSU president and vice president
Approves or rejects all Senate bills
and resolutions
Submits an annual budget to the Senate
Maintains relations with the Boise State administration, as well as local and national government
Elected annually by the student body
Judicial Branch:
The ASBSU judiciary
Maintains power of judicial review over the Senate and the president
Presides over cases involving violations of ASBSU regulations
Holds power to review constitutions of ASBSU organizations – including every club or group on campus receiving student funds
Can impose sanctions on individuals or groups in violation of the ASBSU constitution
Five students appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate
