Youth Issues week came with a purpose.

“To inspire students to be more a part of youth issues…” Crystal White, Volunteer Services Board Poverty Issues coordinator, said.

Youth Issues Week, hosted by VSB, promote awareness of youth issues. It took place

Feb. 16-21.

Some of the events that took place this week included a fashion show, a poster session, a bowl-a-thon, a lecture on the environment and films relating to youth issues. The films included “Invisible Children,” and “Trade.”

Mike Pennington, a student at Boise State, raised about $1,000 for the Big Brothers and Sisters of America and the VSB spring alternative trip by participating in the Bowl-a-thon event. This spring break VSB is going to New Orleans to help rebuild schools.

“Some people just need to realize that they only need to set aside a little bit of time [to help],” Pennington said.

Pennington said his motivation behind the spring break trip is networking. He wants to get to know people.ˇ

Youth Week ended Saturday with Service Saturday, an event that happens about six times throughout each school year. Service Saturday is an opportunity for those students who just want to help.ˇ
