The Boise State swimming and diving team lost an emotional final home meet of the season against Oregon State 177-111 Saturday afternoon.
It was also the last home meet for three Bronco seniors, Lauren Keele, Kelly Knapp and Kelsey Woodfield who embraced recognition of their team efforts during the senior day festivities.
The Broncos didn’t go down without a fight – they took home three first, six second and five third place finishes, out of the 14 total team and individual swimming competitions.
Freshman Amber Boucher led the Broncos as she broke a team record in the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of only 23.74 seconds.
Also finishing first in the 100 freestyle was Stephanie North, on pace with the current team record of 51.17 seconds. Emily Irvin took home the final gold in the 100 breaststroke.
Boise State head swimming coach Kristin Hill expressed pride and happiness in not only her team, but her seniors as well.
“It was the last competition at home, so I know they were excited to be swimming,” Hill said of her seniors. “All of our seniors have been a big part of this team. Kelly Knapp helped start the program, so she definitely has a special place on the team.”
Despite losing the meet, Hill remained positive, as the Broncos are still very new to the scene.
“The Boise State swimming and diving team is only 31 months old,” Hill said. “Playing against a team from the PAC-10, just like football raises the level of your program.”
