Boise State Head Coach Chris Petersen has been known for his surprise decisions on the field. But changing a proven aspect, such as coaching, is a new one for the Bronco Nation.

“We have a great staff and the right people on the bus,” Petersen said. “As this program continues to move forward we want make sure we are playing to the different strengths of the entire staff, and I think these changes will allow us to grow and prosper.”

Running backs coach Jeff Choate will take over responsibility for the linebackers and continue as the special teams coach. Keith Bhonapha, director of football operations, will move into the running back coaching position and Viliami Tuivai, now former linebackers coach, will resume his role for the Broncos as the director of football operations.

Choate has been with BSU since 2006 and worked as a coach at Utah State University from 2002-04 and to Eastern Illinois University during 2005 before relocating to Boise.

Bhonapha held the position of director of football operations for three years for the Broncos.

Tuivai has been a member of the Broncos program for six years before being promoted.

Rob Christoff will maintain the duties as the defensive graduate assistant. He is as former defensive coordinator for Montana State and has also coached at Idaho State University. He has also been a member of Linfield College (Ore.), where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1995 the University of Colorado, Cal State Northridge, and St. Mary’s.
