This Friday at 7 p.m in Taco Bell Arena, the Bronco Gymnasts have their fist head-to-head competition against the Utah State Aggies.

The Broncos come into this meet as the No.25 team in the nation and defending Western Athletic Conference champs. The Aggies are ranked 52.

“We’re going to try to do what we do each and every week, and that is put up 24 good routines,” co-head coach Neil Resnick said.

Being the defending WAC champs and having the added pressure to perform well each meet doesn’t faze Resnick and the team.

“It doesn’t feel like pressure, it feels great! It’s an affirmation that the things we did last year paid off, and what we’re doing this year is going to also,” Resnick said.

So far they are leading the WAC with a 193.800 average per meet. While the history of the rivalry has Utah State ahead 54-16 matches, the Broncos are on a three match-winning streak versus the Aggies.

“Utah State has always been a good program,” Resnick said. “We certainly always see them as a challenge. The real challenge for us is going out there and putting up 24 good routines.”

Friday night some of the nation’s top gymnasts will be in action for the Broncos. Redshirt junior Taylor Jacob is tied at number 10 for bars.

“Jacob is one of our older, more experienced athletes,” Resnick said. “She’s posting great scores on bars with 14 meets in a row without a major mistake.

Mallory Dziawura, a sophomore, is No. 77 on bars, and in at No. 83 is fellow sophomore, Amy Glass.

Sarah Smith is tied for No. 61 on floor routine, and on beam Yvette Leizorek grasps the No. 75 position. Rounding out the rankings is redshirt freshman, Chelsee Apple, hold the No. 93 spot on vault.

Even with standout stars on the team, Resnick feels he has a very cohesive group.

“It is really neat that as a team we’re really good. It’s really a group effort, and feels like we have 23 stars.”

While the Broncos have several nationally ranked gymnasts, they the are No. 22 on bars. On the beam, they are tied for No. 25 and own the No. 35 spot on vault.

This group effort has paid off so far this season with a season-high score of 193.70 in the last competition. The team hopes to build on their early success Friday night. Along with an exciting competition against WAC rivals, Friday night will be a “pink out.” Fans are encouraged to wear pink in honor of breast cancer awareness.
