Texas Christian University is as mean on defense as their mascot is ugly. The Horned Frogs have demolished offenses all season with blistering speed and superior aggressiveness.
TCU has recorded 41 sacks this season and is praised as the No. 2 scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 10.9 ppg – Boise State is ranked third nationally (12.3 ppg).
The Horned Frogs also have the top NCAA spot for rushing defense, allowing an average of 48.67 ypg.
They are second nationally in total defense, giving up just 215.08 ypg.
Standout junior defensive end Jerry Hughs leads the nation in sacks with 14. He had four sacks against their routing of BYU in October. He was also a unanimous decision for first-team honors in the Mountain West Conference. For Hughs, it isn’t a question of if he will reach BSU red shirt freshman Kellen Moore, but when.
Senior defensive tackle Cody Moore assisted Hughs with six sacks on the year.
Thirteen players reached the quarterback for sacks this season.
Senior linebackers Jason Phillips and Robert Henson provide a second level that has tormented team’s rushing games all season.
Phillips leads the Horned Frogs in tackles with 79, 53 of them unassisted. Henson is just shy with 73 total tackles – 40 of which were
unaided. Phillips also recorded 3.5 and Henson one sack respectively.
The TCU passing defense wreaked havoc on their opponents this season as well. Nine players tallied interceptions with 14 in total, led by senior safety Steven Coleman.
Coleman picked three passes this season to put a small dent in what could only be called a resounding team effort. He also recorded 42 tackles during regular season play.
The numbers don’t lie. TCU will come out, guns blazing, with hopes of shooting down an undefeated Broncos season.
