Boise State got its wish. Or its second
wish at least. Boise State head coach Chris
Petersen announced Sunday night that
No.9 BSU will play No.11 Texas Christian
University in the Poinsettia Bowl Dec.23
in San Diego, Calif.
“We’re excited our prediction came
true,” Petersen said. “We kept telling our
team all year long that if we took care of
business, we’d be going somewhere good
and playing a great opponent and those
two things have definitely come forth.”
BSU will definitely play a formidable
opponent. TCU’s total defense is No. 2 in
the nation – they only give up 215.08 yards
per game.
“Really tough match up without question,”
Petersen said. “They’re definitely
a BCS team. I think they’re one of those
teams that people go, ‘we don’t want to
play those guys.’ Coach Patterson has said
that this year, this is the best defense that
they’ve ever had since he’s been there.”
The TCU defense is also No.1 in the nation
against the rush. They only allow 48.7
yards per game.
On the other side of the ball, TCU’s offense
is not to be ignored. Quarterback
Andy Dalton leads the team with 2,045
yards passing and 11 touchdowns. He also
ran for 358 yards and eight touchdowns.
Wide receiver Jimmy Young is another
TCU offensive weapon. On the season, he
has 926 yards and five touchdowns.
“They’ve got a bunch of multiplicity in
their offense and they’ve got really good
athletes to go with it,” Petersen said.
Though this isn’t a BCS game, it is significant to the Broncos because a majority
of the team is from southern California.
“I believe that this is the best bowl game
that we can go to outside of the BCS,” senior
wide receiver Vinny Perretta said. “It
is a BCS game really, it’s our style of BCS
game.”
BSU will prepare for the TCU Horned
Frogs during the next two weeks and will
travel to San Diego Dec. 19.
