Islamic totalitarianism is the siren of death

We have all heard about Mumbai and have come to be reminded of the ruthlessness of Islamic totalitarianism. As
always, the Islamic totalitarian indifference to human life is
unconscionable. The terrorist organization was called “Deccan Mujahideen” roughly translated as “Holy Warriors of the Deccan Plateau.” Little is known about them except that a few of them came from Pakistan and they have taken responsibility for the terrorist acts of last week.

Commentators in the field have been debating whether or not the Deccan Mujahideen are connected with the Pakistani terrorist group, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Al Qaeda, or rogue groups within the Pakistani government.

I want to discuss something more essential: the motivations behind Islamic totalitarians. As Author Mark Steyn said,
“nobody needs a memo from corporate HQ to act… It’s not the Cold War, with a small network of deep sleepers being directly controlled by Moscow, there are no membership cards, only an ideology.”

The originator of modern Islamic totalitarianism was Sayyid Qutb. He argued the best of human civilization was reached during the era of Mohammed and the four “rightly” guided Caliphs (leaders of the Muslim people) that succeeded Mohammed after his death. Once humanity is returned to true Islam, human evil will vanish from the hearts of men and government will cease to be necessary.

The catalyst for remaking humanity is a state that enforces Sharia or Islamic Law under an interpretation that is completely antithetical to human freedom.

To paraphrase the late terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi when he said, “in a democracy, a human being is free to leave Islam and publicly disagree with Islam. The laws are made
according to the will of the people and not derived from the will of God. This is worshipping man rather than worshipping God and it [is] forbidden.”

This theory is self-evidently untrue. As Islamic scholar Bernard Lewis said, “of the four rightly guided caliphs, all but the first died at the hand of an assassin … Little more than a quarter of a century after the death of the Prophet, his community was driven by fierce dissensions, and his sate floundered amid rebellions and civil war.”

The Islamic world has had religious violence ever since. There is no working model of Islamic totalitarianism in human history. Yet this intellectual weakness does not deter Islamic totalitarians.

After all, it is not the plausibility of an ideology that propels men to kill and die. Rather, it is the promise of either Earthly or Heavenly paradise. Like communist theory before it, Islamic totalitarianism promises that once the right people are put in charge of the government, it can end the wickedness and wretchedness of man.

We cannot win the war against terror without defeating these envenomed ideas.

Let’s suppose Jack Bauer teamed up with James Bond and utterly decimated Al Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Deccan Mujahideen with spectacular movie-like violence.

That would not end the Taliban or the majority of the suicide bombers that target Iraq and Israel.

Nor would it stop Islamic totalitarians from forming new terrorist organizations by recruiting from radical madrassas. It’s the popularity of the ideology that determines how many Muslims are willing to fight and die in terrorist attacks.

The most critical factor in the war on terror is the amount of sway Islamic totalitarianism has in the souls of men and women. It’s the only way.

To defeat this ideology would be a favor to the Muslim and non-Muslim people of the world. Remember the totalitarian dream of a mortal man becoming a Hyperion Messiah and perfecting the world is remarkably similar to the ideology of Stalin, Mao and Hitler.

The Islamic totalitarians continued the legacy of butchers when they attacked the Cama and GT hospitals in Mumbai. They attempted to compromise the hospital so paramedics would be overwhelmed and the city could not treat its wounded effectively.

The siren song of paradise robbed some Indian Muslims of their humanity as it will rob others in the future.

Somehow, the Islamic World has to realize Islamic totalitarianism is a Siren of Death.

Its perfect music obscures the monster’s misshapen body and the beast’s adherents are deluded by gilded illusions as they
asphyxiate beneath the water.
