Devron Prescott is a business major who decided to start his career before he graduated.

“Why not try to make something occur within the school to create some sort of organization,” Prescott said. “A group of like-minded people [who] come together and put some ideas together so that by the time we graduate we can have some sort of company built up and possibly have a career ahead of us.”

This line of thinking led Prescott to organize the Entrepreneur Club. The organization, now a recognized club, meets regularly Mondays at 8 p.m. to discuss ideas. The club consists of about 20 members, seven or eight of which show up regularly.

The club hopes to generate exposure so it can expand during its early stages.

In light of the nation’s current economic state and in correlation with the club’s goals, Prescott offered a positive outlook.

“The economy is definitely not getting any better right now,” he said. “But that also creates different opportunities for someone to think of a new idea or venture . in this kind of economy you need every advantage you can get. This is a great way to build your resume.”

Establishing a club takes time and planning. The members must write a club constitution and appoint club leaders. The Associated Students of Boise State University Judiciary then reviews the club’s status for approval. Once it is official, the club must work to serve both the university and the community.

Prescott said the Entrepreneur Club is not limited to Boise State.

“We can go out and help other businesses or create some sort of partnership to help them grow their business,” he said. “When we have students helping businesses within the community, it makes Boise State look good."
