The only time when it is okay to burn a book is when people shape their existence around it and the foundation of the resulting reality is false. I would say the bible is false because of its inability to stay relevant over time.
Society has developed and changed over the centuries so why doesn’t the content in the Bible coalesce with historical development? Or rather, if God was responsible for the content in the Bible, why did God fail to mention any of the scientific discoveries that lay down the road for civilization? He knew science was coming, he theoretically created the grounds for its existence, so why not bring it up in say, Genesis?
The only answer I can produce is that God did not create or inspire the content in the Bible. People perhaps thought they were talking to God, but in truth, if he sounds like he does when he speaks through people, I can understand the confusion.
On TV through one guy, God said, “Feggaboudly aborhordadly mmmaaaammann ssssshhiiiccckkaaa!!!!!!”
If that’s what God sounds like, then yeah, the Bible’s lack of forsight and knowlege of societal progress makes sense.
For example, in Genesis the creation of the Earth and man is established. If God inspired Genesis why would he not communicate the ideas of science and physics? He knew (given his omniscience and omnipresence) when the Bible was created that the dominant ideas of today would contradict those in Genesis. Knowing that, why not then incorporate the appropriate, logic based knowledge into the Bible?
Why would God not mention that the Earth actually revolves around the sun? Also, why not mention that the Earth is approximately 4.6 billion years old and that deoxyribonucleic acid is the foundation of life? Given that this information is missing from the Bible, it is more simple to attribute the lack of science to a lack of God.
It then is much simpler to imagine why those few fundamental and well-established constructs of reality are not in the Bible if man were the author. Of course they would not say the Earth is approximately 4.6 billion years old, how would they ever established that given their time specific understanding of the times?
Of course simple man would never has written in Genesis that the Earth revolves around the sun and that the foundation of life is DNA. That knowledge wouldn’t be around until centuries later.
This particular dynamic is illustrative of how God has nothing to do with the Bible. The book is an all out excogitation of humanity and is fully devoid of godliness. They perhaps thought they were communing with God, but hell, who at that time didn’t?
So, in terms of thinking outside the box, have we evolved?
Verdict: The Christian population is diminishing, so yes.
