Three Broncos named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District team
Richie Brockel, Dallas Dobbs, Vinny Perretta, all members of the Boise State University football team, have been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine’s district eight all-academic first team.
While all are former Western Athletic Conference all-academic selections, this is the first time they have been selected to the all-district first team.
With their selection to the first team, all three will now have their names advanced to the national ballot which will be voted on by select members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
A junior from Phoenix, Ariz., Brockel has already earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from Boise State and is currently working on his master’s degree in accounting. He received his bachelor’s degree with a 3.71 GPA.
Like Brockel, Dobbs has also already earned his undergraduate degree in accounting and is now working on his master’s degree in the same field.
A senior from Las Vegas, Nev., Dobbs posted an undergraduate GPA of 3.57, and has a 3.88 GPA in graduate school. Dobbs is a linebacker for the Broncos and has made nine tackles, broken up one pass and forced one fumble this season.
A senior from Encinitas, Calif., Perretta has a 3.68 GPA in history.
In four years he has caught 60 passes for 697 yards and three touchdowns, ran the ball 68 times for 402 yards and four touchdowns and at the 2007 Fiesta Bowl threw the overtime touchdown pass in Boise State’s 43-42 win over the University of Oklahoma.
Idaho Stampede to play in Burley
The Idaho Stampede announced that they will play a preseason game against the expansion Utah Flash Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. at Burley High School in Burley. This will be the second year the Stampede has played their preseason game in the Magic Valley.
“Burley High School obviously has a great basketball tradition,” Stampede head coach Bryan Gates said. “We are thrilled to bring our guys there and play in a town that gets excited about basketball.”
Thanks to the game’s sponsor, D.L. Evans Bank, fans will get a taste of NBA style basketball, along with family entertainment, as the Stampede plans on putting together fan interactive contests, performances by the Stampede’s lovable mascot AAA Rumble and the Stampede Spirit Dance Team. The Centre Stage Dance Studio team from Burley will perform. And, D.L. Evans Bank will have a special presentation for Burley High School during halftime.
“I am excited to have this level of basketball in this venue, to be this close to the players and to be able to see how the coaches
operate and how the game functions,” said Bob Brice, a Burley resident, Stampede season ticket holder and organizer of the event.
“You’re going to be right in the middle of the action, plus the level of play that you don’t get to see that
often here. So I am excited about being able to bring this to
the community.”
