The Towers residence hall was evacuated just before 11 a.m. this morning due to a suspicious package.
According to a press release from the Boise Police Department, the package was found near a bike rack just outside the building.
After the fire alarm was pulled to notify residents, residence hall staff say they went floor by floor to make sure each student had safely made it out of the building. Most students waited in the Student Union Building for more information. Students and staff were also asked to evacuate the Morrison Center, because of its proximity to the suspicious object.
The Boise P.D. bomb squad was on the scene for several hours. The package was not not an explosive device, and may have been part of a Halloween costume, according to the BPD.
Residents were allowed back into their dorms around 12:50 p.m.
“We encourage our students to be alert and to report anything they feel may be suspicious,” said Frank Zang, director of Communications for Boise State. “Campus safety is a top priority, and kudos to this alert student who noticed this item and called it in."
