This week, the Boise State student club Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians and Allies for Diversity is hosting – in conjunction with the Cultural Center – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Diversity Week. Here are four student responses to the question, “What do you think about same-sex marriage?”
Antonio Hernandez
Freshman, Communication
“First of all, I don’t really see how I could be against anything that really promotes peace and love. I mean, these people aren’t going to get married and go bomb Iraq or go destroy the U.S. They’re just going to get married in the name of peace and love. And I can’t really go against that. As far as human rights, I think everybody should be equal in what they can do and what they can’t do. I don’t see how gay people are any less human or have any less value than anyone else.”
Brock Briges
Freshman, Geosciences
“Honestly, I’m okay with it as long as I don’t have to see it. I don’t think it’s right to say that people can’t be happy. So, if they want to be gay, they can be gay.”
Andrew Johnson
Freshman, Computer Science
“I have a very biblical view on it, so not in favor of it. I would say I’m against gay marriage.”
Rebecca Ames
Senior, Political Science
“I approve of same-sex marriage. I think that the government shouldn’t have any kind of civil benefits that actually is over a moral question. So, anybody should be able to get married, unmarried, whatever do whatever they want to and get the same benefits under the state.”
