Economist Robert Higgs will speak Monday at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom about “The Perilous Path to Unlimited Government.”
Higgs, senior fellow in Political Economy for The Independent Institute, has taught at various universities across the U.S. and around the world.
Higgs is the 2008-09 speaker for the annual Brandt Foundation Lecture Series, and his speech will be free and open to the public.
Brandt Lecture Coordinator Charlotte Twight explained why Higgs is this year’s speaker.
“Dr. Higgs is a nationally and internationally respected economic historian who for decades has studied the growth of government,” she said. “It is an important and timely topic, and I think his viewpoint will be of great interest to students, faculty, staff and the community.”
Higgs has written many successful books on economic and political issues, as well as articles published in numerous publications such as The Wall Street Journal and The Chicago Tribune.
The Brandt Foundation Lecture series, which started in 2004, aims to “bring noted speakers to our campus who have made important contributions to public understanding of individual liberty, free markets, limited government and the Constitution,” according to the series’ Website.
“I believe that the lectures help and benefit students by exposing them to important ideas presented by distinguished speakers such as Dr. Robert Higgs,” Twight said.
Free parking for the lecture will be provided in marked areas.
