Boise State University’s Construction Management Association was named the Top Associated General Contractors student chapter in the nation for its dedication to community and public service projects. Boise State’s first-place finish beat chapters from Arizona State University and Southeast Community College, which came in second and third, respectively.
CMA is a group of Boise State students interested in the construction and development industry and has been active for more than 20 years. The club offers students many opportunities to further their education and professional careers. Specifically, members participate in service learning, meet with industry leaders, project management knowledge, volunteer in the community and learn hands-on skills.
“AGC recognizes that hands-on experience is the best way to develop our future management leaders,” Stephen Sandherr, CEO of AGC said. “Our student chapters represent the future of the construction profession.”
Some projects the CMA has participated in is the construction of a 4,032 square foot green house at Borah High School in Boise, production of two 96 square foot sheds for transporting judges of Special Olympics events in Idaho and collecting concrete tools for students of a civil construction education program in Cape Verde, Africa.
They also volunteer with various organizations around Boise, including Habitat for Humanity, Foothills Elementary School, Children’s Playhouses, Bogus Basin, Ducks Unlimited and Boise Zoo.
Students interested in joining CMA can attend one of their meetings that are held every other Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the CMA lab located on the corner of Manitou Avenue and Belmont Street. For more information visit coen.boisestate.edu/CMA/About.asp.
