The Boise State Volunteer Services Board, co-sponsored by Boise State’s Service-Learning Program and the United Way of Treasure Valley Volunteering Center, presented the Volunteer Expo last Wednesday, Sept. 10 in the Jordan Ballroom of the Student Union Building.
The event gave students, faculty and community members the chance to meet representatives from 60 local community service agencies.
Potential volunteers learned more about the community’s non-profit organizations and signed up to become volunteers.
“I would not have found an easier way to volunteer than at the expo,” Boise State student Gwen Downs said.
Volunteer Services Board Advisor Rebecca Ames said the expo is the biggest volunteer fair for non-profits in the Treasure Valley.
“It is extremely helpful for students to learn how they can help their community,” Ames said.
To encourage students to join in on the festivities, the expo offered an early breakfast followed by free music, door prizes and ice cream.
But for those students who didn’t make it to the expo, it is not too late.
“Volunteer Services Board offers events all throughout the school year, like ‘Into the Streets’ on Oct. 11,” Ames said.
