The sound of rock music echoed through the Boise State campus Friday evening and Bronco Nation was ready for pepping.
The Student Programs Board presented the Homecoming Spirit Rally and Concert. The event was free to students and the public.
The festivities kicked off around 6 p.m. with the first performer of the night, Blue Mask.
Blue Mask was the winner of the Fall Face-Off – a local band competition held earlier in the week. Blue Mask played with passion and a fire for their music.
Hometown favorites, A Rotterdam November, played next. The band opened with an exclusive first listen of a new song.
The band gave a down-to-earth performance that had many jumping along with the beat.
The Blue Thunder Marching Band paraded onto the Quad. The Manline Dancers and Bronco Cheer Squad helped pep up the crowd with the fight song and a number of other productions including a choreographed danced featuring both squads.
But the cheers changed to screams when football coach Chris Petersen appeared on stage to deliver some words to Bronco Nation.
“We need you as loud as you’ve ever been,” he said, encouraging fans to rest their voices for the game.
Two players took the stage on behalf of the team. Senior linebacker Tim Brady acknowledged all the loyal fans.
“We know you guys are the true blue blooded broncos out here and we appreciate that,” Brady said.
Senior running back Ian Johnson led the crowd in a cheer.
“Bowling Green is here right now in their hotels,” Johnson said. “I want one cheer loud enough so those guys in their hotels right now can hear our bronco nation at full force.”
Lastly, the headliners, Hardnox, took the stage. The two entertainers performed with enough energy to power a small space station. The crowd responded back, feeding off their funky style and witty attitudes.
The event wasn’t limited to the concerts – inflatable toys and food gave everyone something to love.
Throughout the entire night, one recurring theme stuck – Bronco Pride.
The rally’s core intention was to get Bronco Nation ready for the game. And it certainly got the fans pumped.
