Boise State hires Chris Huffins as assistant track and field coach
Mike Maynard, the head track and field coach at Boise State University, announced Tuesday that Olympic Bronze medalist Chris Huffins has been hired as an assistant track and field coach. Huffins will work with the sprints, jumps, hurdles and multi-events.
“I’m proud that the reputation of our track and field program has reached the point where we can attract such a strong candidate, such as coach Huffins,” coach Maynard said. “I expect Chris to be a huge boost to our recruiting efforts, and his coaching expertise will advance the level of coaching for those student athletes under his direction.”
Huffins joined the Broncos after serving as the director of track and field and cross-country at the University of California for almost five years, where he compiled three recruiting classes ranked among the top five nationally by Track & Field News. While working with the Golden Bears, the men and women finished among the top 15 at the 2007 NCAA Championships, in addition to leading Cal’s women to their highest Pac-10 finish in both 2005 and 2006. During his tenure at California, he coached 23 All-Americans, two athletes ranked among the top 10 in the U.S. by Track & Field News and recruited Cal’s first NCAA Champion since 1990.
Before moving out west, Huffins spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech where he helped lead the Yellow Jackets to their only ACC Championship in school history. In addition to his coaching duties, he was a successful recruiter as he put together one of the top 10 nationally ranked recruiting classes by Track & Field News in 2001 while serving as recruiting coordinator.
