Balloon twisters, caricature artists, rides, games, a dunk tank and an X-Box tournament were only a few of the many activities going on during Friday’s Up All Night Carnival.
Up All Night is an annual event co-sponsored by the Health and Wellness Center and Student Activities.
It took place from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. just outside of the Student Union Building on the Liberal Arts parking lot next to the intramural field.
The event, this year carnival themed, was a little different than past years’.
According to Jodi Brawley, health educator with the Health and Wellness Center and also one of the chief organizers of the event, this is not only the first year they have chosen a theme for Up All Night.
It is the first year the event has taken place outside of the Student Union Building, however.
This year’s Up All Night also involved student organizations.
Student organizations staffed the carnival booths in exchange for a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales.
Each student received two free tickets to be used for carnival rides and games upon entering the carnival. Additional tickets were 25 cents.
At the end of the night each student organization received compensation for their club.
The compensation they recieved was based on the amount of tickets they collected throughout the night.
The Up All Night committee paid for all the booths and game expenses.
Brawley said the Up All Night Carnival is a way to provide students with a fun and safe alternative to
drinking.
“I’m pretty glad there’s something else to do,” freshman Ariel Whitley said.
Down from 800 attendees last year, more than 600 people went to the Carnival Friday night.
